IGBO UNION DERBY, A WORTHY MILESTONE!

April 5th 2026 marked another milestone in the history of Igbo Union Derby, United Kingdom as a new leadership emerged to carry out the affairs of the Union from where the old leadership stopped. The highlights of the April 5th meeting was the general elections and swearing-in of the new executive of Igbo Union Derby.

The outgoing executives of Igbo Union Derby led by Prince Lawrence Okala, the outgoing president of the Union received praises and accolades for build Igbo Union Derby from scratch when everyone thought is impossible to build the kind of community we enjoy today. Prince Lawrence Okala in his personal capacity was recognised for his doggedness in exemplary leadership throughout his administration. Amongst the reflections of his tenure by members present, Lolo Ihuoma Ben Nwogu in her speech applauded the style of his diplomatic leadership and openness; especially his willingness to go extra miles to ensure IUD becomes a mirror in our community. 

Prince Lawrence Okala (Outgoing President IUD) 

In his remarks, Prince Lawrence Okala thanked all members for assisting him to bring Igbo Union Derby to this great height; concluding with the Igbo adage, “giri giri wu ugwu Eze”. He also thank his wife Mrs Judith Lawrence Okala and children for being a backbone through his leading IUD for over three years. He also urged members to support the new administration even more than than he got in his administration. 

Chief Benedict Nwogu (Incoming President IUD) 

The  new elected president in his speech thanked the outgoing president for laying a good foundation that will help him build from where he stopped. However the incoming president went further to state that the shoe left for him to wear is bigger than him. He further encouraged all members to give their full support in the new administration. Another highlight of the meeting was was the traditional music by Mr Ikeokwu which got everyone on their feet's in celebration of a successful tenure.
